SEA Delivers NorthStar Aviation 407MRH

Southeast Aerospace recently delivered the 22nd of 30 heavily modified Bell-407GX aircraft to NorthStar Aviation LLC. After modification, the helicopters, designated as the NSA 407MRH aircraft, are used as a light attack and armed reconnaissance platform by a foreign military customer. Systems include Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), Mission Systems and Communications upgrades. The modifications are being completed at SEA’s facilities in Melbourne, Florida.

SEA Partnership to Certify Boeing 737NG Cobham Satcom System, fitted with Inmarsat SwiftBroadband Safety Capability

shenzhen-logosSEA has partnered with China Trancomm, Cobham, Inmarsat and Delta G Design to certify the Cobham Aviator 300 system, fitted with Inmarsat’s SwiftBroadband Safety capability for Airline Operational Communications (AOC) messaging, on Shenzhen Airlines’ Boeing 737-800 fleet.

This system will make Shenzhen Airlines compliant with the Civil Aviation Authority of China (CAAC)’s four-minute mandate. The mandate, more formally known as the Satellite Communications Implementation Plan for Airline Operations Control, requires airlines to operate and control voice communications independent of Air Traffic Control within four minutes.

Garmin Clears Up the ADS-B Picture!


Leave it to Garmin to clear up a very confusing, cluttered market of ADS-B products for general aviation. This time there’s no rebranded products, partial approved model STC for certification, tricky install footnotes, gotchas or $7000 transponders.

Garmin Announces Next Generation All-in-One ADS-B Transponders

GTX345Garmin announced today the release of the GTX 345 and GTX 335, all-in-one ADS-B transponders, which include Extender Squitter (ES) ADS-B Out with options for built-in WAAS position source as well as dual-link ADS-B In. With the most compatibility options in the industry, these new transponders display on a wide variety of current and legacy Garmin displays, including select G1000 integrated flight decks. Regardless of the existing avionics configuration, the GTX 345 enables more capabilities for pilots by displaying ADS-B traffic, subscription-free weather, GPS position data and back-up attitude information within popular apps such as Garmin Pilot and ForeFlight Mobile via Connext wireless technology. The GTX 335/345 come in an attractive size and form factor, making it easy to replace the most popular transponders in the industry, like the Garmin GTX 327 and many others. Remote options are also available for compatibility with the GTN 650/750 series and G1000-equipped aircraft. List prices start at $2,995.

Garmin Low-Cost Addition to Radar Altimeter Product Line

This comprehensive radar altimeter solution expands upon Garmin’s high-performance, all digital GRA 5500 radar altimeter to include the GRA 55, a best-in-class and cost-effective radar altimeter designed specifically for helicopters and general aviation aircraft. The GRA 55 leverages Garmin’s patent-pending digital signal processing technology that works to provide smooth altitude tracking and results in a consistent and highly accurate above ground level indication, even in the most challenging environments such as rough terrain, tree canopies, sand and choppy water. The solution also includes the new GI 205 stand-alone indicator, designed to pair with the GRA 55 or GRA 5500, which provides a comprehensive, stand-alone radar altimeter solution. These two new products meet the latest design standards and ultimately provide pilots with rock-solid confidence of their altitude above ground. In addition to helping owners and operators meet recent FAA requirements for radar altimeter equipage in commercial helicopter operations, the GRA 55 meets the most rigorous altitude accuracy requirements, only previously seen in products for transport and military aircraft. And together, the GRA 55 and GI 205 help fulfill recent FAA requirements for radar altimeter equipage in commercial helicopter operations.

The GRA 55 is expected to be available in the 2nd quarter of this year. The GRA 55 is compatible with select Garmin integrated flight decks and flights displays, as well as some compatible non-Garmin displays. The GI 205 is anticipated to be available in the 4th quarter of this year. A complete GRA 55 and GI 205 package, including antennas, will be available.

Garmin Safety Enhancing Angle of Attack (AOA) System

Garmin is announcing a new, intuitive, safety-enhancing, and simple to install angle of attack (AOA) system for general aviation aircraft. The system is comprised of the new GI 260 AOA indicator, GAP 26 angle of attack probe, and GSU 25 air data computer. The GI 260 is designed for quick, at-a-glance understanding of AOA during the most critical phases of flight and offers audible alerts in the event of a high-workload situation. This new system supports the FAA’s recent initiative to broaden adoption of Angle of Attack displays to improve safety.

The AOA System is expected to become available for installation in general aviation aircraft in the 3rd quarter of this year. Various packages are available that accommodate the appropriate aircraft voltage and include the option for a heated probe. Additionally, the GI 260 AOA indicator is available as an option for G3X and is expected to become available in the 2nd quarter.
