Why is the COSPAS-SARSAT Number listed as the Serial Number for the Kannad 406AF-Compact I just purchased from SEA?

The six digit COSPAS-SARSAT ELT number is the only unique number that is located on BOTH the transmitter assembly and Kannad documents that accompany the 406AF-Compact units. For example, the 406AF-Compact System P/N S1840501-02 has a Kit serial number and then an actual transmitter serial number that differ. Therefore, the COSPAS-SARSAT number provides an easy match for the assembly and paperwork since that number is the same on both.
