In relation to NE (New) parts, many OEMs change their prices and availability without any notice to dealers or the industry. Therefore, through the REQUEST or RFQ indication, we ask that customers contact us for the most accurate price and availability.

In relation to SV & OH parts, the used parts aftermarket in the aviation industry is not an infinite supply. It is a dynamic, constantly changing market that is significantly affected by and susceptible to highs and lows in supply and demand. Therefore, although we attempt to, at times, we are unable to predict the exact moment when an item may be available. Once again, through the REQUEST or RFQ indication on our website, we ask that customers contact us for the most current and accurate price and availability.

On the KX-155A and KX-165A radios, only the active part of the COMM display is visble while in direct tune mode.  This mode is also called ACTIVE ENTRY is another method of entering an operating frequency into the radio and is accessed by pushing and holding the COMM transfer button for 2 or more seconds.

KX-155A PN 069-01032-0101 and 069-01032-0201 with serial numbers between 29161 and 29321 have Mod 13 already installed therefore include the most current Liquid Crystal Display instead of the original Gas Discharge Display. It should be noted that the Mod 13 may or may not be marked on the PN label on the unit, however that serial number range was manufactured with the LCD.

For the KX-165A, Mod 4 incorporates the LCD upgrade. The applicability for the for the modification reads as follows from the Honeywell service bulletin:

'...applicable to the KX-165A P/N 069-01033-0101 with S/N 5101 and below, without Mod 4 installed...P/N 069-01033-0201 S/N 12941 and below without Mod 4 installed...NOTE: P/N 069-01033-0101 with SNs between 4491 and 5101 have Mod 4 identified on on the mod section of the SN label. P/N 069-01033-0201 with SNs between 12671 and 12941 have Mod 4 identified on the mod section of the SN tag. On these units, the Mod is fully included but the P/N label on some sub-assemblies is incorrect.'

Yes, however certain features in the A radios will not be available if the original non-A connector is used. The A radios do accommodate a different connector than the original non-A radios as the A radios include additional features. The A radio's bottom connector has a notch in it so that it can accommodate the smaller, original non-A connector. Therefore, when replacing a KX-155 or KX-165 with a KX-155A or KX-165A, most major features will remain the same with the exception of the additional features available when using the A connector. Most significantly, the bezel backlighting feature available on the A radios will not be functional when doing this slide-in replacement using the original non-A connector. Both units utilize the same mounting rack (P/N 047-04874-0001).
The KX-155A is part of the Silver Crown Plus product line which includes a backlit bezel so that the lettering on the faceplate can be seen at night.

In addition, the KX-155A adds the following features and functions:
  • Remote channel increment capability and flipflop tuning for applications where pilot cannot take hands off yoke such as helicopter operators
  • Internal Course Deviation Indicator (CDI) included for such times when external CDI is being driven by GPS receiver
  • Stuck microphone alert allows COMM transceiver to automatically shut down if microphone is keyed continuously for more than 33 seconds
  • Bearing-to-station mode and radial-from-station mode on display
  • Includes elapsed-time and approach timer that can be programmed to count either up or downwards
  • New display doubles amount of available presentation space from one line to two
There are several Service Bulletin related issues with the KX-155A. Several Service Bulletins are required during a unit's next repair or at the earliest opportunity. Service Bulletin 11 addresses the repair of the KX-155A if the transmitter should fail. This Service Bulletin requires the replacement of the transmitter. Units with serial numbers 24100 and below are affected. Honeywell requires that units affected by this Service Bulletin be returned to Honeywell. If the KX-155A unit is still under new product warranty, then Honeywell will issue warranty credit or payment. If the unit is not under warranty, then Honeywell will not perform the service bulletin and deems the unit unrepairable.

From a purchasing standpoint, Southeast Aerospace cannot purchase units under serial number 24100 since we offer a 6 month warranty when these units are sold. Since there is the possibility that the transmitter in the KX-155A could fail within 6 months, it is not practical to obtain units below serial number 24100.
Navigation (Nav) and Communication (Comm) radio receivers and transceivers are available as separate, individual radios or as a combined Nav/Comm unit.

A Nav/Comm unit is sometimes more economical in price than the 2 separate Nav and Comm radios and usually requires less panel space.

Obviously, one disadvantage to the combined Nav/Comm unit is in the case of unit failure you lose both nav and comm functions since the entire unit is removed.
