A failed FAA Public ADS-B Performance Report (PAPR) does not necessarily mean your ADS-B equipment is defective. In many cases, the issue is related to system configuration, installation, or data being transmitted incorrectly rather than a hardware failure.

Common causes of a failed or unsatisfactory PAPR include:

  • Incorrect aircraft registration (N-number) or Flight ID
  • Improper ICAO 24-bit aircraft address programming
  • Incorrect aircraft emitter category
  • GPS position source or accuracy issues
  • Transponder or ADS-B software configuration errors
  • Altitude encoder discrepancies
  • Wiring or installation problems
  • Outdated software or firmware
  • Intermittent antenna or RF performance issues

Many of these issues can be corrected without replacing the existing equipment.

Because the PAPR evaluates how your ADS-B Out system actually performed during flight, it is an excellent diagnostic tool for identifying configuration or installation issues that may not be apparent during normal ground testing.

If your report identifies one or more failures, the first step is to have the report reviewed by an experienced avionics technician. In many cases, the issue can be resolved through proper troubleshooting, software updates, or system reconfiguration.

Southeast Aerospace can assist with interpreting PAPR reports, diagnosing ADS-B performance issues, and recommending the most practical corrective action. If a system is approaching obsolescence or no longer cost-effective to maintain, we can also help evaluate modern ADS-B upgrade options that improve both compliance and situational awareness.

After any ADS-B installation, repair, software update, or configuration change, it's a good practice to request a new PAPR following a qualifying flight. Verifying your system's performance before your next trip can help prevent unexpected compliance issues and ensure your equipment is operating as intended.

The FAA's Public ADS-B Performance Report (PAPR) is a free online tool that evaluates how well your aircraft's ADS-B Out system is performing during an actual flight. After a qualifying flight, aircraft owners, operators, or maintenance personnel can request a report that identifies whether the ADS-B installation is transmitting data correctly and meeting FAA performance requirements.

The upgrade of a GTX 335 to the GTX 345 is relatively easy, however is not a “plug-and-play” swap.

The GTX 345 includes integrated ADS-B In capability while the Garmin GTX 335 is ADS-B Out only.

Both units share a similar form factor in the mounting rack and main connector but upgrading requires:

  • Additional wiring for ADS-B In functionality (the GTX 345 includes an additional connector for this)
  • Integration with other onboard systems such as compatible Garmin displays, MFD, or tablet
  • Possible reconfiguration of existing interfaces or additional interfaces (ex. audio for traffic alerts)

For a detailed assessment of your aircraft and avionics configuration, it’s best to consult with an experienced avionics shop.

The K10-00276-05 system from Garmin includes the following items:

PN 010-01214-41  GTX-335 with install kit, back plate, rack and config module.
PN 011-3080-00  GAE-12 Altitude Encoder
PN 013-00235-00  GA-35 Antenna
PN 010-12661-00  Product Registration Card with instructions (see important note below).

***IMPORTANT NOTE***

The Product Registration Card includes instructions in that the unit must be registered with Garmin to access the Part 23 or Part 27 STC RTU Letter. Instructions are on the registration card.  DO NOT DISCARD THE PRODUCT REGISTRATION CARD.

In relation to NE (New) parts, many OEMs change their prices and availability without any notice to dealers or the industry. Therefore, through the REQUEST or RFQ indication, we ask that customers contact us for the most accurate price and availability.

In relation to SV & OH parts, the used parts aftermarket in the aviation industry is not an infinite supply. It is a dynamic, constantly changing market that is significantly affected by and susceptible to highs and lows in supply and demand. Therefore, although we attempt to, at times, we are unable to predict the exact moment when an item may be available. Once again, through the REQUEST or RFQ indication on our website, we ask that customers contact us for the most current and accurate price and availability.

Garmin has provided Service Advisory 2051 for general recommendations, materials, and supplies to clean and disinfect Garmin products. Otherwise, not following the recommendations could void the warranty.

  • Cleaners containing ammonia will harm the anti-reflective coating on many Garmin aviation display lenses.
  • Disinfectant with a solution of 70% isopropyl alcohol that does not contain ammonia is preferred. Solutions of up to 91% isopropyl alcohol are also acceptable.
  • Clean the display lens using a clean lint-free cloth and a cleaner that is specified as safe for anti-reflective coatings.
  • For other exposed surfaces such as knobs, buttons, and bezels, a damp cloth with soap and water is acceptable.
  • Bleach-based cleaners, ammonia-based cleaners, or other harsh chemicals on any surface are not recommended.
  • Remove all soap/soap residue to prevent buttons and knobs from gumming up or becoming slippery.
  • Many aviation products are not rated as waterproof. Spraying or wetting the units to the extent where moisture could go beyond the exterior surfaces could damage the unit.

Both are Garmin kit part numbers for the GTX-335 ADS-B panel mount transponder with internatl WAAS GPS that can be sold over-the-counter without dealer installation.

Both include the transponder w/ WAAS, GA-35 antenna, STC product registration, installation kit, and pilot's guide.

PN K10-00276-04 additionally includes the GAE-12 altitude encoder and high-speed multi-charger.
