The KNS-81 meets TSO C40a (VOR), C36c (LOC), and C34c (Glideslope). The KNS-80 does not meet any TSOs. The VOR/LOC/GS section of the KNS-80 is very similar to that of the KNS-81. The KNS-80 also include integrated DME. The DME section of the KNS-80 is similar to that of a stand-alone KN-64 DME. The KN-64 is not a TSOd DME. Therefore, with the inclusion of the Non-TSO DME, the KNS-80 is not TSOd overall.

It should be noted that although the KNS-80 is not TSOd, it does meet the Area Navigation System specification as per FAA Advisory Circular 90-45A
